F.A.Q

How do I tie my waist beads?

  1. Choose where you would like the waist beads to be, on your high waist, waist  or hips
  2. Put the string of beads around your waist exactly where you want them to be
  3. Once you choose the placement for your waist beads, shift all the excess beads over towards the end of the string.
  4. Cross the strings on both sides and make your  first knot.( undo the knot if you aren’t happy with the size or not feeling comfortable). Try not to leave any space or gap between the beads or else the waist beads could pinch your skin later on
  5. Make two to three more knots, cut off the anchor beads.

6.Discard the excess beads into container

  1. Pull the string apart and make two more knots
  2. get a pair of scissors and cut close to the knots
  3. Use a lighter to burn the edges (optional)

What are waist beads and the meaning behind it?

Waist beads for my tribe are worn by women around their hips from day one of their life. This symbolises womanhood and tracks their weights, also curves their bodies. Whenever a girl reaches  a new milestone (puberby, marriage, maternity ect) she gets a new set offered from elders( close relatives). Traditionally once worn, waist beads can’t be shared or shown in public, only the significant other is allowed to see it. Waist beads are used in several areas, traditional medicine, spirituality and  much more.

Who can wear waist beads and how to wear them?

From our perspective every woman can wear waist beads, every race shape and size. Wearing waist beads is about womanhood and self love, so every woman should wear them the way they feel the most beautiful.
